This morning Lincoln Griffins U12 Whites made the long journey to Thurlby for their second Challenge Cup game of the season. We received a warm welcome from our friendly hosts Thurlby and both sets of girls showed immaculate respect during the 1 min silence ahead of remembrance day. Kick off was soon upon us and the mighty Whites settled quickly and probed the opposition well, without troubling the home defence. Out of nowhere, we found a goal straight from a Hammo corner. Nerves settled, Los Blancos pressed forward and found their range. Evie added to the tally with a composed close finish, Hammo finished well into the bottom corner and Emily F showed top class anticipation to slot home. The hosts responded well with a well taken goal after more good anticipation in our box. Before half time Hammo and Emily F stuck again, with a nice top corner left foot strike and a smart composed finish. After half time, against the slope and a rejuvenated Thurlby, the girls had to work extra hard to keep on their momentum. A great finish by Thurlby narrowed the gap and gave them real hope, before another quickfire double from Hammo and Emily F extended our lead. Once again, Emily F showed that never giving up on the ball pays dividends and sealed the win. Our hosts played some cracking football, especially in wide areas, but the Whites were clinical today and always looked dangerous in the final third. Coaches player of the match went to our 4 goal hero Emily F, who dominated the defence and hit every goal with such composure. Hammo picked up the grown-up's player of the match for her 4 goal haul, she used her change of pace really well today and was made great decisions to play teammates in when they were in better positions. A tough battle against a strong side with some excellent footballers. Thanks to the grown-ups for your superb support and willingness to make the long journey.
