With no competitive games for Los Blancos in January Epworth kindly hosted us for a friendly match to kick off the new year.
This was the first time we’d played Epworth since our U10’s days as they now play in a different league. We were greeted with a warm welcome as always on what was a very chilly morning.
The game was played in great spirits and both teams were equally matched throughout , the half time score was 0-0 with some excellent defending on show from both teams. The second half was much the same as the first and it wasn’t until late on in the half that the Whites broke the deadlock with a quality finish from our sniper Emily F. The lead didn’t last long though with Epworth pushing forward and the equaliser followed from a great cross into the Giffins box. The game ended 1-1 which was a fair result.
It was a great day to try players in some different positions and to give debuts to our new players Annabelle and Evie who didn’t shy away and both put in a great performance. One of the players trying out a new position was Kaitlin at left back who looked a natural, putting in some great challenges and calmly finding a forward pass every time she was in possession of the ball, we were that impressed that she was named player of the match. Our Grown ups player of the match went to Emily F who scored our only goal and looked dangerous every time she had the ball at her feet.
As always we’d like to give a big shout out to our Sponsors Brook & Mayo who have provided us with some fantastic kits this season.
