Yesterday Los Blancos travelled to Grimsby to play our quarter final game against the Lionesses. It’s always a tough game against these girls and yesterday was no different. The mighty whites got off to a solid start and put the hosts under plenty of pressure but the Grimsby defence stood firm. On 20 minutes it was the Lionesses that opened the scoring and took a 1-0 lead into half time.
The Griffins started the second half strong and on 40 minutes found the back of the net from an Emily F corner which Lottie pounced on to poke home. We created a couple more good chances before Grimsby broke and took the lead once more on 47 minutes which was then closely followed up by another on 48. This knocked the girls confidence who then had to chase the game again. Without any substitutes the team fought on but tiredness and lapses of concentration kicked in which resulted in another two goals late on with the final score ending 5-1.
It was a tough one for the girls to take being 1-1 against an excellent Grimsby side with 13 minutes left on the clock but we will brush ourselves off and go again.
Grown ups player of the match went to Kaitlin for some excellent defensive work on the left and pin point distribution. Player of the match went to Lottie for her endless running, tackling and goal contribution.
