On Saturday we welcomed Grimsby Borough to Lincoln in what was a great game between two fantastic teams. Borough improve every time we play them and we expected a tough game which is exactly what we got. The first half ended goalless with Borough thwarting our attacks and the cross bar keeping us on level terms.
The second half was more of the same with Borough frustrating our attack. The breakthrough came on 40 minutes with Hammo managing to wiggle her way through the Borough defence and lift the ball over the keeper to see it ricochet in. Two minutes later and a Hammo free kick, struck low and hard went cleanly through the opposition defence to make it 2-0. Borough always looked dangerous and our defenders and Keeper managed well with the balls over the top throughout the game but on 58 minutes one got through and Borough found the back of the net to bring the game to 2-1 and that was the final score.
Without any substitutes and players deputising in unfamiliar positions the girls really dug deep to get this result. Player of the match went to Matilda who was strong, vocal and helped create some great chances on the left. The left hand side was equally as strong in defence with Kaitlin picking up the grownups award, she was first to every ball and played some brilliant forward passes to set us on the front foot.
As always we would like to say a massive thank you to our kit sponsor Brook & Mayo electrical contractors. Your support means everything.
